Introduction: Our Privacy Policy

SafeTeensOnline, Inc. is committed to protecting your privacy as we help educate online users. This privacy policy applies to SafeTeensOnline’s Website and SafeTeensOnline’s services.

The purpose of this Policy is to disclose our practices related to information we collect from and about you and/or “Your Student”. Please read this Policy carefully.

This Policy applies to the site and services only. When you and/or Your Student visit another website through a link on the site, then you or Your Student will be interacting with a third party operating under its own privacy and security policies rather than SafeTeensOnline’s.

For example, a third-party website will have its own policy regarding the use of cookies and web beacons or collection of your or Your Student’s information. If you or Your Student chooses to obtain products or services from such third parties, the use of the data collected by such third parties is governed by such third party’s respective privacy policies rather than SafeTeensOnline’s. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of the other websites that you or Your Student visit.

I. Collection of Your Information

A. Information we collect:

We collect personal information about you and Your Student when you register to use the Site and Services, such as:

  • Email addresses

  • Names

  • Your Student’s school’s name

  • Your Student’s grade level

  • Other relevant demographic information.

In addition to information collected from you and Your Student during registration, we may collect the information you provide through:

  • Online surveys;

  • Technical and customer service calls

  • Email and online communications with us

You can review and update the information you and/or Your Student provide by accessing Your Student’s information stored in Your Student’s profile on the SAFETEENSONLINE™ website.

B. Information we collect/interaction with our site

We collect information from your and/or Your Student’s access device and browser, including:

  • The type of browser being used

  • Software on the computer, mobile device, or other similar device being used

  • Processor type being used

  • The operating system being used

  • The IP address being used

  • Navigational data such as, without limitation, the URLs you and/or Your Student visit and any searches you and/or Your Student may perform.

Although we reserve the right to monitor Site activity, we will not intentionally disclose any private email messages or online communication between you, Your Student, and/or a third party, except in the following circumstances:

  • When we believe, in our sole discretion, that you or Your Student acted or is acting in violation of any agreement between you or Your Student, as the case may be, and us, or any applicable law, rule, or regulation

  • To protect the integrity of the Site and Services or the Internet community as a whole

Except that:

  • Students who use SAFETEENSONLINE™ Website (“Learners”) shall be able to access recordings of their sessions and other cybersecurity awareness activities they perform from sessions via SafeTeensOnline social media channels.

Faculty advisors from schools involved in the SAFETEENSONLINE™ Program may be able to access recordings of past tutorial sessions in which a student from their school was involved upon request and at SAFETEENSONLINE™’s sole discretion

C. Information collected through third parties

The student’s school, publicly available sources (their websites), our Affiliates (as defined below), or our third-party partners such as Advertisers (as defined in Section III below), service providers, or others, in order to update or supplement the information we have collected directly from you and Your Student. An “Affiliate” is a company that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with SafeTeensOnline.

D: Information collected through technological methods

In addition, we may use and may allow our Affiliates or third party partners to use, technological methods such as cookies or web beacons to collect information about you and Your Student.

Cookies are small pieces of data that may be stored on your computer, mobile device, or other similar device and are used to make the Site easier to use. For example, cookies keep track of your preferences, what other websites you visit, any personalization you may have done, any passwords you have elected to be remembered, and they may also measure whether you have seen or interacted with a link on the Site or any other website. Cookies (or similar technological methods) also allow us, our Affiliates, and our third-party partners to serve you and Your Student with advertisements including targeted advertisements when you or Your Student is on or off the Site. Cookies may be set via the browser being used when you or Your Student visit our Site, or when you or Your Student open emails from us.

Web beacons are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and may be used to track the online movement of users. Web beacons help us and our third-party partners better manage content delivery by informing us when you are on the Site and what content is effective.

II. Use, Sharing & Disclosure of Your Information

We do not collect, maintain, use or share student personal information beyond that needed for authorized educational purposes, for the usage of the SafeTeensOnline website, or as authorized by the parent/student. SafeTeensOnline will never sell student personal information nor use or disclose student information collected through our service (whether personal information or otherwise) for behavioral targeting of advertisements to students.

A. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the site and services

  • Fulfill a transaction or request

  • For internal purposes, such as confirming and tracking Your Student’s cyber awareness activities

  • Understand Your Student’s use of the site and services

  • To better tailor and target content to Your Student while Your Student is on and off the site

  • Communicate with You and Your Student

  • Conduct research

  • Develop research reporting for us and our Affiliates

B. How we share your and Your Student’s information

  • To help operate the site and services

  • To facilitate fulfillment of an awareness training session, or to provide research reporting for internal use. In addition, we may share information in the following circumstances: without notice, to law enforcement or government agencies in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes (including civil and criminal) or otherwise as required by law

  • In order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, and situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or in cases where we believe any agreement between us is being violated.

III. Email & Opt-Outs

You may receive an email from us regarding the site that we believe you may be interested in, related to new features or products we are introducing, or other promotions. If you decide that you wish to cease receiving such email, you may do so at any time by following the opt-out instructions in the email.

Since it is necessary for us to contact you regarding certain matters, you may not opt-out of receiving messages related to material announcements or policy changes, or administrative matters relating to your or Your Student’s account, such as customer service or similar matters.

IV. How We Keep Your Information Secure

We use secure socket layer (“SSL”) technology to protect your and Your Student’s information. SSL encrypts information as additional protection against the decoding of that information by anyone other than us. However, despite all reasonable security precautions and processes, such as password protection, encryption technology, and the use of firewall technology, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect all information we collect and process, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you or Your Student transmit to, from, or by means of the Site, and you and Your Student do so at your own risk. Once we receive a transmission, we will take commercially reasonable precautions to protect its security on our systems.

V. Minors' Use of the Services

SafeTeensOnline believes it is important for parents and guardians to participate in and monitor Student use of the Internet and the Site. If we have actual knowledge that a student is under the age of 13, we require the parent or guardian to provide parental consent as required by the Student’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). SafeTeensOnline will not use or disclose PII from any Student under 13 except as may be permitted under COPPA. Please see below for further information related to Students under the age of 13.

A Special Notice to Parents and Guardians of Students Under 13:

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and fair information practices, we will not knowingly allow Students under the age of 13 to use the Site without parental consent. If we later learn that a Student under the age of 13 is a user of the Site and we do not have parental consent, then that Student’s account will be terminated. We do not knowingly disclose the personal information of Students under the age of 13 to third parties.

In order to make an informed decision about giving parental consent we provide a summary of our pertinent privacy practices below with regard to Students under the age of 13:

  • We abide by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which, in part, prohibits all operators from conditioning a Student’s participation in an Internet activity on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity.

    • The name, address, and email address of the operator of the Site is:

  • We collect a variety of information, including personally identifiable information, as described elsewhere in this Policy. Most of this information is collected through the registration form and personal profile you or Your Student fill out when registering to use the Site or when responding to questions or surveys.

  • We collect and use your and Your Student’s information for a variety of purposes as more fully described elsewhere in this Policy, including to uniquely identify each user on our Site and Services and to research our users’ demographics, interests, and behaviors.

  • If Your Student is under the age of 13 you can review and delete or have deleted Your Student’s Information and refuse to permit further collection or use of Your Student’s Information by accessing Your Student’s Information contained in Your Student’s personal profile. You may terminate Your Student’s account, or have SAFETEENSONLINE™’s stored recordings of Your Student’s deleted, at any time by submitting a request to SafeTeensOnline via email to info@SafeTeensOnline.org.

  • Please note that we cannot change or delete information or terminate Your Student’s account with other third parties, including every SafeTeensOnline Affiliate. You must contact each third party or Affiliate to change or delete Your Student’s Information or terminate Your Student’s account. Please review each third-party or Affiliate privacy policy for a description of how to take such actions.

This special notice is effective as of November 1, 2015, and is not effective prior to such date. This special notice only relates to Students under the age of 13 and is not applicable in any respect to Students of age 13 or over. In the event we make any changes to any of the information set forth in this special notice, we will promptly revise this special notice, make it available in this Policy, and notify all current account holders via email.

VI. Changes to the Privacy Policy

By using the site or services, you and Your Student acknowledge and accept this Policy in its entirety. If you or Your Student do not acknowledge or accept this Policy in its entirety, please do not use or allow Your Student to use any of the sites. We reserve the right to change this Policy at any time. Please check the Policy each time you use the site to ensure you and Your Student are aware of any changes in our privacy policy and practices. Continued use of the Site signifies your and Your Student’s acknowledgment and acceptance of changes made to this Policy. Notification of any changes to this Policy will be posted on the Site’s home page and/or subscriber start page and will be emailed to all current account holders.

VII. International Users

The information we collect from users is processed and maintained in the United States, where privacy laws may not be as protective as in your home country. If you or Your Student is using our Site or Services from outside of the United States, by providing information to us or allowing Your Student to provide information to us you are consenting to the transfer of the information to the United States for processing in a manner consistent with this Policy.
